My husband and I recently visited Asheville for two nights on our honeymoon, and this charming city, often referred to as the “Paris of the South,” immediately stole our hearts. The surroundings are beautiful, the atmosphere is relaxing, the downtown is walkable, and the locals are friendly. Exploring romantic Asheville makes it easy for you and your partner to step away from every day life and just enjoy each other’s company.
So what are you waiting for? Book a trip to romantic Asheville for you and your partner! Here are our recommendations, including the top restaurants and cafes, bars and breweries, and where to stay and things to do for a perfect couple’s weekend getaway to Asheville, North Carolina.
The Lofts at 16 Church – Yonder Luxury Vacation Rentals
For two nights of our honeymoon, we stayed at Loft 202, located in the heart of downtown Asheville. With the ultimate location, it’s a breeze to walk to so much of the city’s top attractions, restaurants, and bars, and it’s easy to get back to the loft if you need a break to put your feet up. This lodging is in the midst of Asheville’s hubbub, but we found it was still quiet and peaceful inside (even on a Saturday night).
The exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, abundance of natural light, and simple, classy decor make the space incredibly stunning and is the perfect ambiance for a couple’s trip to romantic Asheville. On top of that, the loft has everything you could possibly need and then some – a full kitchen, dining table and bar area, washer and dryer, writing table, 1.5 bathrooms, lounge area with a couch and TV, and a comfy bedroom. There’s even a private balcony to enjoy the atmosphere of downtown Asheville from.
We booked our stay at Loft 202 through Yonder Luxury Vacation Rentals, North Carolina’s premier luxury vacation rental company. Yonder has a variety of properties in Asheville and its surrounding area, ranging from cottages and cabins to retreats and estates. Their website is very easy to use and it clearly states the amenities of each property and reviews from previous renters.
Disclosure: Cheers to The Lofts at 16 Church and Yonder Luxury Vacation Rentals for offering us a discounted rate for our stay at Loft 202. With that being said, my opinions are still 100 percent my own, and I wouldn’t promote anything I don’t personally think is awesome.
From trendy cafes to cozy restaurants, romantic Asheville, North Carolina has plenty of options when it comes to good food. The city is packed with spots perfect for a table for two, but here are a few of our favorites.
Breakfast/Brunch – what’s more “coupley” than brunch?!
Early Girl Eatery is a farm to table southern comfort food restaurant with a charming, laid-back vibe. The restaurant uses ingredients from local farms, and the specials change daily. Breakfast is served all day with vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options. Pictured below is their tofu scramble.
As a breakfast and lunch cafe, Biscuit Head has a fresh take on southern cooking. It’s the place to go for any form of biscuits whether you’re into biscuit sandwiches or biscuits and gravy. The restaurant is notorious for having a line, but the staff is really efficient in getting you seated and serving you tasty food.
This artsy cafe is a must for breakfast or brunch. Over Easy Cafe sources local ingredients for its dishes, so the menu is constantly changing. We found they had some really unique items on the menu. I had a London fog to drink and lavender French toast to eat – both delicious.
Cafes – perfect spots to get one-on-one time
At the corner of Biltmore Avenue and Aston Street, Double D’s Coffee and Desserts is a double decker bus turned into a cafe serving well… coffee and desserts. The cozy interior makes it easy to sink into a seat and watch the world go by out the windows.
Get your game on! Well Played is a board game cafe boasting over 500 games to play. We really enjoyed trying different games we had never played before. It’s $5 per person to play their vast collection of games. Additionally, the cafe serves sandwiches, snacks, and desserts, in addition to coffee, local beers, and wine.
Dinner – dress up and enjoy the food & ambiance
Ambient lighting and a flickering fireplace instantly set the mood in this trendy restaurant. It’s easy to see why Storm Ruhm Bar & Bistro was recently named the coziest restaurant in North Carolina. The restaurant prides themselves on putting modern twists on classic southern food. We loved every dish we ordered and don’t pass on their rum cocktails!
Located in a historic industrial building, Buxton Hall’s premises used to be a wood-floored roller rink, a boat show room, and a variety of auto shops. The restaurant serves BBQ Eastern-Carolina style, meaning the meat is cooked low for 18 hours over hardwood coals and infused with a vinegar mop. Our favorite dishes included mussels cooked under a pig as an appetizer and pit smoked fried chicken as an entrée. And their dessert menu is constantly changing with delicious treats.
Now it’s time to toast you and your partner! Asheville is known for its brewery scene, so there are loads of local beers to try. But if you’re not a beer-drinker, there are also laid-back bars serving wine, champagne, and cocktails. Cheers!
Take a stroll around the Grove Arcade and make a stop in Battery Park Book Exchange & Champagne Bar. Order two glasses of bubbly and snuggle up in one of the fancy couches or chairs in the used book store.
As Green Man Brewery’s (one of the first breweries in North Carolina) original tasting room, Dirty Jack’s is a small, low-key bar full of character. Grab a beer and head over to the dart boards for a fun game!
Order a flight of beers, and if you come hungry, share a pizza. Asheville Brewing Company is Asheville and Western North Carolina’s third oldest brewery. The downtown location has a large patio and fun atmosphere. The brewery’s other location on Merrimon Avenue even has a movie theater on its premises that was voted The Coolest Movie Theater in North Carolina by Cosmopolitan, and all movie tickets are only $3.
Bhramari is one of the newer breweries in Asheville with a cozy and laid-back vibe in its large indoor and outdoor space. The taproom features their own creations, in addition to their favorite local beers. If you’re feeling competitive, Bhramari also has a selection of games to play.
