Photo Essay: The cobblestones of Belgium

Belgium is an easy country to fall in love with – the fairy tale cities, beautiful architecture, incredible cheese and chocolate and some of the best beer in the world. What’s not to love?

It’s easy to get wrapped up in what’s around the next corner or distracted by the overwhelming aroma of fresh frites. However, one of the most unique characteristics of Belgium is right under your feet – the cobblestone streets.

After two trips to Belgium, I’ve really fallen in love with its beautiful roads and the unique feel it adds to its cities. So here’s a tribute to the cobblestones of Belgium.

  1. Very European-like 🙂 We have those in Ljubljana as well – they look lovely, but they are not too comfortable if you want to wear high heels 🙂 🙂

  2. Yep, agree with the above sentiment! 😀 Lovely shots. ESPECIALLY the one with some of those awesome Belgian Frites! 🙂

  3. The streets are beautiful. I fell in love with Estonia (reminds me alot of Belgium only smaller) and I can tell by judging the streets that this place will kill my back as well but it will all be worth it. 😉 Lovely city and I enjoyed your photos.

  4. Well, I have to confess I’m guilty of not paying attention to the cobblestone streets of Belgium, so thanks for sharing 🙂 Some great shots of quaint cobblestone streets here!

  5. Funny to see, that something (for me) normal is so special for somebody else! Your pictures are great! I haven’t been to Belgium yet. Sad as we are neighbors but the last time I tried it was when the terroristic warnings were spoken for Brussels. My friends didn’t want to fly for this reason… I am sure there will be another opportunity to check out the belgian streets and fries 🙂

  6. Have just been posting some pics of cobblestones on my new site (“Cobblestones, Bridgeworks and Walls”) and came across yours here – nice to see someone else who has become smitten with cobblestones! Cheers!
